My name is Marijke Talsma and in March 2007 I came in contact with a young woman from India, named Emily, who told me her story.
She told me that they live in slums and that they are here in this slum because of the tsunami. With there church there pastor they took alot of the orphans under there care.
They live on what God gives them and almost no one has their work.
A number of men who work in the slums live but they don't receive money for there work only rice.
There is not much to feed the children.
In the begining i just began to support them just out of faith not knowing if this was true or not.

The church / community

The town consists mainly of widows, children, the 3 pastors and their families and many women. A number of men but they are in the minority.

Their task is to take care of the children that they are not alone and get a good education. There is much love and attention given to the children.
Additionally, the church very much in evangelism, they do everything possible to try to get people to Jesus.

The orphans

When the tsunami came in 2002, Pastor Paul went to Chennai where he had come into contact with a number of pastors who are all living in slum districts and comunities of about 20 members each. They received reports of a major disaster and children where running around not knowing what to do where to go.
From the stories I understand that the children sometimes had to draw from the blubber. The first goal was to make it in Chennai to bring in families, and for them to worry.
The children were so great that the families could not take care of all the orphans in Chennai. So Pastor Paul decided to take alot of the children to take to Isnapur (Hyderabad) to find families here that can take care of them.

The role of Pastor Paul and Emily

Pastor Paul has a bit of a supporting role and see how everything runs in families, supports the widows and orphans. Pastor Paul is a neurologist by profession and works in the slums. Emily is like a super mother she brings the childeren to school, she feeds them learns them english she gives them bible study.
If they can't pay the fees for school Emily is trying to get the kids to school for free but for how long will the teachers alow this?

 

 

 

 

Role of the government

The government does not do much for the widows and orphans. Once a woman is widowed, she surrendered to the rats and if they don't have family that supports them. the vast majority comes ins the slums because of this. Also, the orphans take the same fate. If the church did not take them in than they will just die.
Even if the government says something different reality show so as mentioned above.

The plan

The plan arose when we were on a visit to a Roman Catholic church and saw how they had a great institution by widows and orphans to cope on the ground of the church. they have small homes, a clinic, a restaurant, a guesthouse. Laundry room and a garden with lots of fruit in it.
Such a kind of living-comunity we we want to make for this people. It is like a Ashram wich is very popular in India.
This whole project will cost approximately 17,000 euros.

The donation we receive will be used for the following things:
First, it is important that the children can continue attending school and that they have clothes for school.
In addition the widows supported in their daily maintenance.
The rest of the money will be saved for the community to realize as the Catholic church is above.
